Speaking Out-Real Life Stories 2 08/08/2010
Hello again. Today's story clearly highlights the horrific process of reporting a military rape or sexual assault. Clearly the military does not do enough for the men and women who survive these incidents; instead, they take the easy, immoral way out and cast aside victims. Please be advised that this testimonial contains descriptions of rape, assault, and harassment and has not been edited for any other purpose than to protect the privacy of the survivor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was raped while serving in the Navy, by a fellow Sailor. The reporting process was brutal - there is no better word. It was like being kicked when I was already down, by the organization that was supposed to protect me. I did not have enough support to testify at court martial and have my name dragged through the mud again, so the man who assaulted me is still in the military and received no punishment or counseling. That thought refuses to leave my mind. I'm moving on, healing is all I can focus on at this point. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many thanks to the brave person who decided to share their story with us. What makes this even worse is that the perpetrator was allowed to continue on, unscathed despite his atrocious and disgusting act. If you have a story to share, consider requesting a rose. Your story will only be posted with your express permission, after which it will be posted anonymously. If you do not wish to share any details of your situation, we will still honor your request for a rose. CommentsLeave a Reply | Olga Ferrer
